The President of Voices of Democracy (formerly the Head of State) is the server's head of state, serving as an apolitical figure responsible for overseeing essential democratic processes and upholding principles of fairness and representation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Prime Ministerial Appointments: The President is responsible for appointing the server's Prime Minister after a general election or when a vacancy in the office occurs. Constitutionally, they are required to appoint the candidate whom the majority of the House of Representatives give confidence to. If there is so such candidate, the President may temporarily appoint an Acting Prime Minister.
Election Oversight: While it is primarily the duty of the Electoral Commission to administer and run elections, the President is an ex-officio member of this commission and may administer elections at the commission's request.
Enactment of Laws: According to Article 1, Part 5 of the Constitution, when a piece of legislation passes both the House of Representatives and the Senate, the President must either sign the bill into law or refer it to the Supreme Court for judicial review. It is important to note that the President cannot veto legislation; if the Supreme Court rules all, or parts, of a bill as constitutional, the President is obligated to sign the bill accordingly upon conclusion of the judicial review.
Elections and Term Length
The President is elected every six months on the second Saturday of January and the second Saturday of July. In order to run for president, a candidate must be nominated by at least 30 percent of Parliament.
If a vacancy occurs during a presidential term, the Vice President will take over as Acting President. If there is no Vice President, an Acting President is chosen among the Speaker of the House, Senate Majority Leader, and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. An Acting President then holds office until the conclusion of a special by-election.
